A young woman, Sara Iqbal, tragically lost her life on Tuesday in a traffic accident on Karachi’s Rashid Minhas Road near Jauhar Mor. The 23-year-old was riding her scooter when it slipped on the uneven road surface and collided with a dump truck, resulting in her immediate death.
The victim’s body was transported to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC) by ambulance for legal proceedings.
The deceased bike rider was a resident of Shanti Nagar in the Gulshan-e-Iqbal area of the port city.
According to Deputy Inspector General-Traffic (DIG) Ahmad Nawaz Cheema, Sara Iqbal was traveling from Nipa Bridge towards Drigh Road when her scooter lost control near Sunny Pride Apartments in Gulistan-i-Jauhar. The dump truck, identified with the number plate TKM-214, struck her from behind, and the driver fled the scene, leaving the vehicle behind. The abandoned truck has been handed over to the Sharea Faisal police for further investigation.
DIG Cheema attributed the accident to the poor road conditions on Rashid Minhas Road and other areas of the city, which have been worsened by recent rains. He noted that potholes and deteriorated infrastructure are significantly impacting traffic flow and increasing the risk of accidents.
“The dilapidated road infrastructure after rains is not only hampering smooth traffic flow but also causing road accidents,” Cheema observed. He added that the traffic police are actively working to fill potholes and repair damaged roads to improve safety. “We are trying to make the roads motorable after rains on our own,” he said.
