Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), the country’s largest hydrocarbon exploration firm, has made a significant gas discovery at the Chak 202-1 exploratory well in Rahim Yar Khan, Punjab.

The Chak 202-1 well, which was spudded on June 29, reached a depth of 1,956.50 meters. Based on wireline log interpretation, a drill stem test-1 in the Sui Main Limestone formation revealed a gas production rate of 6.15 million cubic feet per day (mmscfd).

This discovery marks OGDCL’s second successful identification of gas reserves this month, further bolstering the nation’s energy resources.

Last September, OGDCL also discovered gas at the Chak 214-1 exploratory well, also in Rahim Yar Khan. The Chak 214-1 well was spudded on June 29, 2023, utilizing OGDCL’s in-house expertise.

The well reached a depth of 1,851 meters. Drill Stem Test-1 in the Dunghan Formation yielded 1.1 mmscfd of gas with a choke size of 32/64” and a Well Head Flowing Pressure (WHFP) of 230 Pounds per Square Inch (PSI). Moreover, Drill Stem Test-2 in the Sui Main Limestone (SML) produced 1.31 mmscfd of gas with a choke size of 32/64” and a WHFP of 260 PSI.
