A sixteen-year-old Hindu girl in Daharki lost her life after being beaten to death by a fake Hindu Pir who claimed to be exorcising evil spirits from her body, according to media reports on Saturday.
Police stated that Anil Menghwar, a resident of Hafizabad locality in the city, subjected Rekha, a resident of Maswan area, to severe torture during the exorcism, resulting in her death.
Following a complaint by the girl’s father Ram Lal, the police registered a case and apprehended the Pir who attempted to flee. He was arrested on Link Road, and subsequently, a raid on Anil’s house led to the arrest of his brother Suneel.
Due to widespread illiteracy in Pakistani society, particularly in rural areas, fake Pirs often deceive people using various tactics to extract money, and at times, they also perpetrate abuses against women and children, however, most of the cases remain unreported due to different reasons.
