KARACHI: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has suspended flight operations to Dubai and Sharjah due to adverse weather conditions in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The national flag carrier announced that inclement weather had severely affected flight operations to these destinations and that all airlines, including PIA, would halt operations until further notice.
The UAE authorities issued an orange alert due to the “unstable” weather conditions, which have been anticipated for several days. According to Khaleej Times, this weather is expected to peak on May 2nd and 3rd.
Safety measures have been implemented across various sectors, with schools shifting to distance learning and companies encouraging remote work. Parks and beaches have been closed, and airports, along with airlines, are preparing for the impact.
While these rains are predicted to be less severe than the recent heavy downpour, precautions are advised for public safety.
Moreover, Emirates, Etihad Airways, flydubai, and Air Arabia have reported disruptions in their operations due to the adverse weather conditions. Gulf News noted delays, cancellations, and diversions, with Emirates canceling flights to various destinations, including Istanbul, Nairobi, Cairo, Amman, Singapore, and Johannesburg.
