Mobile phone services have been temporarily suspended along designated routes in Karachi as part of stringent security measures during the visit of Iranian President Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi to the port city.
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) announced in a statement that cellular services would be unavailable on specific routes in Karachi from 3pm on April 23 until 8am on April 24, following directives from the Ministry of Interior.
The decision aims to safeguard the security of the visiting dignitary during his stay in Karachi. Moroever, main thoroughfares in the city have been closed to the public, and a public holiday has been declared to minimize inconvenience.
President Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi, accompanied by his delegation, arrived in Karachi on Tuesday evening.
Upon their arrival at Jinnah International Airport, they were warmly received by Sindh CM Murad Ali Shah, Governor Kamran Tessori, and other officials. First Lady Aseefa Bhutto, daughter of former President Asif Ali Zardari, also greeted the visiting dignitaries at the airport. Stringent security measures were implemented at the airport and its vicinity to prevent any potential security threats.
According to sources familiar with the itinerary, in addition to meetings with the governor and the chief minister, President Raisi is scheduled to address members of the business community and participate in a dinner at the CM House.
