Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi is scheduled to make an official visit to Pakistan this month against the backdrop of heightened tensions in the Middle East following a recent attack on Israel by Iran.
This visit marks the first by a foreign head of state since Pakistan’s new government took office after the February 8 General Elections.
According to reports, President Raisi will lead a delegation to Pakistan on April 22, with both sides finalizing arrangements for the visit. Discussions during the visit are expected to cover various issues, including the escalating situation in the Middle East and the Iran-Pakistan Gas Pipelines Project.
The recent attack on Israel, carried out by Iran using drones and missiles, has further intensified tensions in the region. The Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) stated that the operation, named “True Promise,” was in response to perceived Israeli actions. This incident follows heightened hostility between Iran and Israel, particularly since the outbreak of conflict in Gaza in October and Israel’s attack on its consulate in Damascus on April 1.
Relations between Tehran and Islamabad were strained earlier this year when Iran launched missiles into Pakistani territory, prompting a diplomatic standoff. However, the issue was peacefully resolved through diplomatic channels, leading to the restoration of diplomatic ties between the two neighboring countries.
