KARACHI: An introductory session on fruit and vegetable exports has been organized for 40 trade and investment officers under the Pakistan Fruit and Vegetable Exporters, Importers, and Merchants Association (PFVA) in the Sindh capital.
According to the details, an introductory session was held to inform the 40 new trade and investment officers to be posted in the embassies, high commissions, and consulates of Pakistan under PFVA about the possibilities and challenges of increasing the export of fruits and vegetables. PFVA Patron Chief Waheed Ahmed in his introductory remarks highlighted the main obstacles in the way of export of fruits and vegetables and value-added products.
Patron Chief Waheed Ahmed mentioned the challenges of export which include research and development, new varieties, improving quality, eliminating quarantine problems, and increasing the shelf life of products, besides increasing exports and increasing Pakistani exporters in the international market He described the role of trade and investment officers as important in promoting linkages with producers. He said that market research and intelligence are of primary importance to increase the market.
Waheed Ahmed said that Trade and Investment Officers can play an important role by identifying new markets and providing information to exporters about demand, competition, import regulations, and consumer preferences in these markets. and Investment Officers to identify potential opportunities for distribution in the import market with trade facilities to increase Pakistan’s exports and help exporters to develop linkages with importers.
He said that adherence to the quality and safety standards of Pakistan’s fruits and vegetables can be made a basis for trade negotiations. Addressing the session, Dr. Dr. Muhammad Tariq Khan, Director of Technical, Plant Protection Department highlighted the issues related to quarantine, sanitation, and phytosanitary compliance and said that Trade and Investment Officers have to look for quarantine compliance and new markets.
Director Technical Dr. Mohammad Tariq Khan urged the officers to play their role in increasing the coordination of their national Plant Protection Department with the Plant Protection Department of Pakistan in the countries where they are being posted to ensure quarantine compliance and new markets.
