Fawad Alam ‘humbled’ over Test selection

KARACHI: Pakistan batsman Fawad Alam has expressed his happiness at being selected for the Pakistan side after being sidelined for more than a decade.

The middle-order batsman had been ignored by a number of selectors over the years despite continuous stellar performances in the domestic circuit.

He even made a double-century for Sindh in the ongoing Quaid-e-Azam Trophy while Pakistan’s national sides return after a disappointing tour of Australia.

“My love and compassion for cricket can never die,” he said. “Humbled to have been selected once again to represent my country.”

Earlier speaking at a press conference on the upcoming Tests, Fawad Alam said that he feels as though he is debuting in Test cricket once again since his first match was also against Sri Lanka.

“Hopefully I can perform the same way I performed on Sri Lanka’s turf when I made my debut in Test cricket.”

Alam maintained that he is still positive despite the ten year gap in his Test career. He said he has his family’s support and remained positive until opporunity came knocking on the door.

“Sometimes you feel frustrated that your name is not coming up. I cannot ever imagine leaving cricket. It is my bread and butter and our families depend on it,” he said.

“It’s heartbreaking as you are trying your best to perform and deliver. However, you must keep looking towards the future and force yourself to keep on knocking. The door is bound to open some day,” he added.

He said his main focus now is on the upcoming Tests matches, and he deliver his best, adding it up to all of us to make the series a success.

He urged cricket fans to make the event a success so that a positive side of Pakistan comes across to the world, as it will be beneficial for the nation as well as for Pakistani cricket.

Pakistan will host its first Test after a gap of  ten years when Sri Lanka tours the country for a two-match series starting in Rawalpindi from Dec 11 and in Karachi from December 19.
