Former finance minister and senior leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Asad Umar on Monday said that the party has the required numbers for Chief Minister Parvez Elahi’s vote of confidence.
“You all saw how the government demonstrated its power during the Punjab Assembly session today, Asad Umar said while speaking to media outside the provincial assembly “We won’t need votes from the opposition to demonstrate that we have a majority in the house.”
His comments come amid reports that the PTI and the PML-Q had decided against holding the vote of confidence in Monday’s session, backtracking their earlier claims.
When asked why the vote of confidence was not on the agenda for today’s session, Asad Umar said it was the government’s strategy, adding that CM Parvez Elahi will obtain the house’s confidence whenever deemed appropriate.
Asad, while criticizing the federal government for the skyrocketing prices, claimed that the government was faking a shortage of necessities to make the already dire condition of inflation worse.
“The government first allowed the wheat to be smuggled to Afghanistan, and now they are importing wheat from Russia. Similarly, soybean consignments were not cleared due to which the prices of chicken are skyrocketing in the country,” he said.
Asad claimed that while the price of palm oil has greatly decreased on the global market, it has not decreased in Pakistan.
He added that the “looters” in the federal government had no sympathy for the underclass of society and were just interested in resolving their corruption charges.
