As per reports, on Tuesday, a delegation consisting on religious scholars, businessmen and tribal chiefs from the border area of Chaman has met the representatives of the Afghan government in Kandahar.
During the meeting the both sides agreed to work for the prevention of incidents of violence on the border between the two countries and for the elimination of mutual misunderstandings.
It has been reported that during the negotiations, the Afghan representatives pledged that they will not take the initiative in firing in the future and will try to prevent misunderstandings between the two countries from leading to armed conflict again.
It is a matter of great regret that along with our eastern border, the western border has also become a hotbed of insecurity for a long time and Pakistan has to take strict defensive measures now also on the western border.
This matter is more painful for the people of Pakistan in the background that Pakistan’s enmity with Afghanistan does not have the same grounds as India. The people of Pakistan understand that Afghanistan is a brother country of Pakistan and both countries are connected in deep and strong ties of religion, history, ethnicity and language, so the people of Pakistan do not expect such manifestations of hostility on their western border like the kind of situations and problems that Pakistan is facing on the eastern border with India.
Afghan Taliban have been generally considered to be pro-Pakistan and that is why the people of Pakistan have a soft corner for them. In this background, current unexpected clashes on the Afghan border like the Indian border are certainly very surprising for the people of Pakistan.
The Taliban government of Afghanistan should understand that peace is a major need of the region. One of the major and fundamental problems of the Afghan government with Pakistan is the attacks on Pakistan from the Afghan territory. Due to these attacks, Pakistan is compelled to tighten security and install iron fence on border. These measures of Pakistan for border security had been irritating the Kabul administration under the shadow of the American administration, and today, the Taliban administration also has reservations and objections on it. However, the Afghan authorities are not ready to accept Pakistan’s excuse that these actions are a compulsion of Pakistan due to terrorist activities in Pakistan while using Afghan soil.
The Taliban administration is still not taking TTP terrorism from Afghan soil seriously and is trying to cover up the facts with diplomatic cover-up like the previous regime, but it should understand that as long as Afghan soil is using for terrorism in Pakistan, it will not be able to escape its responsibility as a government.
The Taliban government should also understand that the prevention of attacks on Pakistan from Afghan soil is also a basic requirement of their commitment with the international community under the Doha Agreement. By turning a blind eye to the activities of the TTP, the Taliban administration is violating its promise to the world.
We believe that peace and security is a great need of the entire region, especially the Afghan people, and for peace, the borders must be peaceful, while the Pak-Afghan border cannot be peaceful in the presence of terrorist groups like the TTP in Afghanistan. It is necessary for the Afghan government to pay serious attention to Pakistan’s reservations towards TTP for peace on the borders.
