LAHORE: The Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan has announced that his lawyers have filed defamation case against Geo TV, its anchor Shahzeb Khanzada and a UAE-based dubious figure Umar Farooq Zahoor who was brought on-air to level allegations regarding Toshakhana gifts.

Taking to Twitter on Saturday, he said his UAE lawyers led by Hassan Shad have filed criminal defamation (libel and slander) proceedings under UAE law against Geo TV, Shahzeb Khanzada and Umer Farooq Zahoor.

On December 5, Imran Khan had announced starting legal proceedings in UK against Geo TV, serving it formal letter of claim with 14 days to respond.

The latest move by Imran Khan came almost a month after PTI announced to file legal suits against Jang/Geo Group and Umar Farooq Zahoor for levelling allegations against Imran Khan regarding sale of Toshakhana gifts.

The PTI has categorically stated that neither the watch in question was sold to Farah Bibi, nor to Umar Farooq Zahoor. He said a brother of Umar Farooq Zahoor was in jail these days, and Zahoor himself had been accused of sending his family to Dubai through illegal papers despite court’s restrictions.
Within days after Geo TV’s Umar Farooq Zahoor-based program, Farhat Shehzadi, who is also known as Farah Gogi, served a legal notice seeking Rs5 billion to Umer Farooq Zahoor, Journalist Shahzaib Khanzada and Geo Tv, for naming her in series of allegations related to safe of Toshakhana watch.

Advocate Azhar Siddique served notice to Umer Farooq Zahoor, Geo Tv and its Journalist Shahzaib Khanzada for launching a defamation campaign against his client Farhat Shehzadi.
