Hasan Raza’s century guides Northern to second successive win

KARACHI: Northern’s Hassan Raza scored an unbeaten century to take his side to the second successive win in the Cricket Associations Challenge (one-day event) on Monday in Karachi.

Southern Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa also won their respective matches in the second-round matches of the tournament.

Northern beat Central Punjab by eight wickets

After being asked to bat first Central Punjab were bowled out for 220 in the 50th over. Mohammad Saad (68) and Abdul Samad (61) scored half-centuries for their side.

For Northern, Shadab Majeed bagged four wickets for 22, while Sufiyan Muqeem took three for 38.

In reply, Northern cruised to win in the 35th over with eight wickets in hand. Hasan scored an unbeaten 119 off 96 balls, hitting 12 fours and two sixes. Ali Imran scored a 71-ball 56, smashing four fours.

Southern Punjab beat Balochistan by 39 runs

Faisal Akram’s four-fer and Mohammad Shehad three-fer with the bowling led Southern Punjab to a 39-run win over Balochistan. Batting first, Southern Punjab were dismissed for 199 in the final over of the innings with Mohammad Umair top-sc0ring for his side with an undefeated 82. Balochistan’s Jalat Khan took four wickets, while Gohar Faiz and Taj Wali grabbed two wickets each.

In reply, Balochistan were bundled out for 160 in the 42nd over. Ayaz Tasawar top-scored with 42.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa beat Sindh by 60 runs

At the Landhi Gymkhana Ground, batting first Khyber Pakhtunkhwa scored 243 for eight in their 50 overs with Mohammad Mohsin Khan top-scoring for his side with 79. Sindh’s Ghulam Mudassar was the pick of the bowlers for side with figures of four for 36. Rameez Aziz took two wickets for 27 runs.

In reply, Sindh were bowled out for 183, handing Khyber Pakhtunkhwa a 60-run win. Saad Baig top-scored for his side with 56. For the winning team, Maaz Khan took four wickets, while Zeeshan Ahmad bagged three wickets.

Southern Punjab beat Balochistan by 39 runs at the KCCA Stadium

Southern Punjab 199 all out, 49.4 overs (Mohammad Umair 82 not out, Moinduddin 35; Jalat Khan 4-22, Taj Wali 2-26, Gohar Faiz 2-51)

Balochistan 160 all out, 41.3 overs (Ayaz Tasawar 42; Faisal Akram 4-37, Mohammad Shehzad 3-26)

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa beat Sindh by 60 runs at the Landhi Gymkhana Ground, Karachi

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 243-8, 50 overs (Mohammad Mohsin Khan 79, Mohammad Farooq 33, Nabi Gul 31; Ghulam Mudassar 4-36, Rameez Aziz 2-27)

Sindh 183 all out, 43.4 overs (Saad Baig 56, Ammad Alam 49; Maaz Khan 4-27, Zeeshan Ahmad 3-32)

Northern beat Central Punjab by eight wickets at the TMC Ground, Karachi

Central Punjab 220 all out, 49.4 overs (Mohammad Saad 68, Abdul Samad 61; Shadab Majeed 4-22, Sufiyan Muqeem 3-38, Mohammad Hammad 2-39)

Northern 221-2, 34.4 overs (Hasan Raza 119 not out, Ali Imran 56)
