Pakistan’s Climate Change Minister Sherry Rehman has been declared the new hero of the two-week-long United Nations COP 27 meeting in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt.
In the longest and most historic meeting of the COP 27, an agreement was reached to provide compensation to developing countries affected by environmental damage, under which rich countries agreed to help poor and developing countries affected by climate change.
Under the agreement, a “Loss and Damage Fund” will be set up for compensation. Representatives of 200 countries participated in the UN COP 27 meeting, including climate change-affected Pakistan, where the recent floods have wreaked havoc, and the world has so far been unable to repair the damage to Pakistan.
In the meeting, Sherry Rehman on behalf of Pakistan gave impressive arguments on environmental disasters, which are well appreciated.

British High Commissioner to Pakistan Christian Turner also appreciated the efforts of Federal Minister for Climate Change Sherry Rehman regarding the establishment of the fund in COP 27.
In his tweet, he said that Sherry Rehman and her team deserve credit for setting up a fund to repair the losses in Cop-27. We now have to implement the Sharm El Sheikh and Glasgow Accords.
On the other hand, UNESCO Chairperson Ashko Swain writes that Pakistan’s climate minister Sherry Rehman has become the second hero of COP 27 after Brazil’s president-elect Lula.
Sherry Rehman welcomed the announcement of COP27 in her tweet and said that this announcement has given hope to the communities affected by climate change around the world, it took 30 years to establish the fund for 134 countries
