Floods in Pakistan this year caused large-scale destruction, the effects of which can still be seen across the country. Flood victims are still waiting for aid and appeals to the international community to increase aid from abroad are ongoing.
If we talk about the loss of life and property due to flood, more or less 3.5 million people have been affected by floods in Pakistan. More than 1,500 citizens were killed, thousands of people were injured and thousands of cattle were killed. Hundreds of kilometers of roads were damaged.
Due to the heavy rains, the water level continued to rise and then the flood swept away the communication bridge, cutting off the land connectivity of several areas with other cities of the country. Train service between Balochistan and other provinces was restored yesterday.
On Sunday, the news came out in Pakistani media that a fund has been established to compensate for climate damage. A historic agreement was reached at the COP 27 meeting of the United Nations in Egypt.
After the announcement of the establishment of the fund at the COP 27 meeting, it is expected that the relief and reconstruction of the flood victims in Pakistan will be greatly assisted. Pakistan also welcomed the agreement.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Federal Minister for Climate Change Sherry Rehman and Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari took to the social networking site Twitter to welcome the progress in COP 27.
In this regard, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said that the establishment of the fund is the first important step towards the goal of climate justice. Climate Change Minister Sherry Rehman also clarified the details of Pakistan’s efforts for COP 27 in a Twitter message.
The federal government is appealing for help from the international community for the rehabilitation of the flood victims, but still, partial rehabilitation of the flood victims is not seen, while the important ministers of the federal government seem to focus on foreign visits and political rhetoric.
On the other hand, flood victims are forced to live a helpless life without roofs. Several flood victims have raised questions about the performance of the provincial and federal government and the question is also being raised that where is the foreign aid coming for the flood victims finally going.
The winter season has started, which is likely to cause human tragedy at any time. It is necessary that the government realizes the real needs of the flood victims and the real rehabilitation process of the flood victims should be started on an emergency basis.
