ISLAMABAD: The federal government on Tuesday announced the formation of a high-powered committee led by Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah to probe the audio tapes leaked from the Prime Minister’s House.
The Director-General of the Inter-Services Intelligence (DG ISI) and Director-General of the Intelligence Bureau (DG IB) have been added to the 12-member committee, according to the Cabinet Division’s statement.
The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), and the secretary of the National Telecommunication and Information Security Board are also represented on the committee.
The group also includes Federal Law Minister Nazir Tarar, IT Minister Aminul Haq, Sherry Rehman, and Communications Minister Maulana Asad Mahmood.
The committee has been tasked to supervise and evaluate the investigation into the cyber security breach at Prime Minister’s House. The body has been given a seven-day deadline to wrap up the probe.
According to the notification, the committee will review the existing security protocols in the Prime Minister’s House and ensure foolproof security and digital ecosystem in the Prime Minister’s House.
According to the notification, the committee will also recommend measures to secure data at the Prime Minister’s House. The high-level committee will hold its inaugural meeting tomorrow.
In a matter of eight days, a number of audio recordings from the current administration, including those of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and previous PM Imran Khan, have been leaked via social media.
A top official and PM Shehbaz Sharif are said to have discussed Maryam Nawaz’s request to bring a power plant from India for her son-in-law in the first recording, which was released last Saturday.
