SHC grants 22-days to provincial authorities against gutka ban

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has granted time to the provincial authorities till 10th December regarding the ban on gutka.
Justice Salahuddin Panhwar headed the division bench. During the ruling, the Justice also ordered to continue action against those making and selling gutka and other harmful substances.
Secretary Health and other Sindh government officials were present in the court during the hearing of the case.

The bench ordered all the parties in the case to submit their reports in the next hearing of the case.
Selling gutka has been banned in Sindh province under Section 337-A (intentionally causing hurt) of the Pakistan Penal Code.
Gutka is a combination of 4,000 chemicals of which including tobacco. It is used apparently used as a mouth freshener. People get addicted to it as gutka is reported to have stimulant and relaxation effects.

Using gutkha can lead to vomiting, nausea, stomach cramps and diarrhea. It also can cause chest pain, either high or low blood pressure, raised skin temperature, and irregular heartbeat.
