ISLAMABAD: Kissan Ittehad chairman Khalid Hussain Batth has threatened to give a call of countrywide shutdown if farmers’ demands are not met.
Khalid Hussain Batth, while talking to the media in Islamabad, expressed hope that the government would issue a notification after agreeing to accept the farmers’ demands.
He warned the government that the protesting farmers would shut down the whole country if government kept delaying issuing notification. He added that millions of farmers will head towards Islamabad on his call.
The Kissan Ittehad sit-in in Islamabad is now in its fifth day, and the farmers have given the government till Monday to comply with their requests.
Another round of negotiations between the government and farmers failed to resolve the impasse.
Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah categorically dismissed the farmers’ protest yesterday.
“A deadlock between the government and the protesting farmers continued as another round of talks ended without any result.” Minister of Interior said.
Rana Sana said the government has already accepted legitimate demands of the farmers and postponed the payments of tube well bills.
“A notification in this regard has already been issued, protest over the matter is unjustified.” he added.
It should be noted that the Pakistan Kissan Ittehad-sponsored farmers’ protest in Islamabad has entered into fourth day.
The farmers demanded the reinstatement of the previous Rs5.3 per unit tubewell electricity rate as well as the elimination of all taxes and adjustments.
