Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Marriyum Aurangzeb, was mobbed with inappropriate language and obscene slogans in London, the capital of Great Britain, which cannot be allowed in any civilized society. Pakistan is no longer a new or nascent society in which such occurrences can be considered normal. It has been 75 years since the establishment of our beloved country yet it seems appropriate means of political expression still evade us. Nonetheless, according to the statement of Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah, the Minister of Information has refused to take action against the fourteen people involved in the incident.
Earlier, the Ministry of Interior obtained the data of 4 women and 10 men involved in the incident along with their citizenship details. These people, who appeared to be PTI supporters, surrounded Marriyum Aurangzeb in a coffee shop and accused her of wasting Pakistan’s money in London. The video clip containing inappropriate language used against her also went viral on social media.
The biggest allegation by PTI on the present government is that it ousted the then Prime Minister Imran Khan from power by bringing a motion of no confidence as part of a foreign conspiracy. On this supporters of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf can rightfully express their outrage; the constitution of the country fully allows them to do so. Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan has also accused the present Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, new Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and Marriyum Aurangzeb of corruption and theft on other PML-N leaders in his numerous statements.
The demand of PTI supporters for an investigation in this matter can be considered completely justified. However, no one can be allowed to take the law into their hands. Even if Marriyum Aurangzeb is not in the position of Federal Minister of Information, every Pakistani woman should respect her. If anyone believes that the Minister of Information is involved in corruption, theft or any other serious crime, the door of the courts can be knocked upon. Marriyum Aurangzeb’s restraint throughout the episode and the decision not to take action against these inviduals is indeed admirable.
