The central leader of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and chief of staff of Bani Gala, Dr. Shahbaz Gill, was arrested in August due to the remarks he made during his speech. He was released yesterday.

Shahbaz Gill’s lawyer said that the former special assistant’s speech did not cause as much chaos as the plaintiff’s case. Some parts of the speech were extracted and some were combined to establish the case.

Shahbaz Gill was imprisoned for 36 days in this case of sedition. On Thursday, the court released Shahbaz Gill on a bond of Rs500,000, but also remarked that Gill’s statement was defamatory. People’s honor should not be thrown away.

During the hearing of the case, the court made several strong remarks which prove that the judiciary is not happy with the behavior and unjustified statements of the politicians, while the sedition case against Shahbaz Gill by the government was mostly unjustified.

In particular, Islamabad High Court did not accept the matter of rebellion. The Chief Justice remarked that do not give arguments on rebellion, if we go to social media, half of Pakistan will be jailed. Skip it and focus on the rest of the provisions.

If we examine the entire case, the arrest of Shahbaz Gill, the alleged torture of the Islamabad police and the statements of Shahbaz Gill in custody, one thing is clear that the state institutions seem to be involved in the mutual tug-of-war of politicians.

On the one hand, the judiciary was trying so that the government would not be angry and Shahbaz Gill should also face minimum imprisonment, on the other hand, there was a tug-of-war between Islamabad Police and Punjab Police to arrest Gill.

The painful reality is that the devastation caused by floods across the country is heartbreaking. Until yesterday, 1 thousand 486 people died during the rains and floods, while 12 thousand 749 were injured and there is no recovery of the flood victims.

Sindh suffered the most due to floods where 638 people died, 305 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 281 in Balochistan and 191 in Punjab. There is a need for the political leadership to get out of the fray of baseless cases and focus on the rehabilitation of the flood victims.
