BJP leader’s Blasphemous remarks: Everything you need to know about T. Raja Singh

Thakur  Raja Singh has been making headlines for all the wrong reasons not only in India but in Pakistan as well after his harsh and derogatory remarks against Prophet (PBUH) drew backlash.

The lawmaker from the Hindu nationalist Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) angered many after making derogatory remarks about Prophet Muhammad, which sparked large protests in Hyderabad city in India’s southern Telangana state on Monday night.

Thakur Raja Singh was arrested a day after his blasphemous comments surfaced online and was later released by the Indian court as well.

However, this is not the first time the Indian politician has landed in controversies with his caustic remarks against leaders and a particular community. Here is everything you need to know about the controversial BJP leader.

  • Thakur Raja Singh is an Indian politician who began his political career with the Telugu Desam Party and later joined the BJP.
  • He is a former member of TDP Telugu Desam Party and later joined the Bharatiya Janata Party and was in the Bharatiya Janata Party until 23 August 2022.
  • He was suspended by the party over his blasphemous remarks against Prophet (PBUH).
  • Singh has been in stirred controversies over his anti-Muslim rhetoric, which includes calling Muslims traitors and calling for the shooting of Rohingya Muslims.
  • In September 2020, Singh was labelled as a “dangerous individual” by Facebook and was banned from all the social media platforms over hate speech.
  • In 2015, Raja Singh attacked a police constable after he stopped the BJP leader from playing loud music at 2 am in the morning at a wedding ceremony.   
  • In an election affidavit filed by him in 2018, Raja Singh declared that 43 police cases were lodged against him. The offences ranged from taking out rallies without permission, delivering “hate speech” to rioting, defiling a place of worship, and attempting to murder.
  • This year in April, Raja Singh was booked for creating a nuisance and disturbing public peace and tranquility after he made provocative communal speeches during a Ram Navami shobha yatra. 
  • Recently, during the last week, Raja Singh threatened to stop Munawar Faruqui’s show in Hyderabad and said he would burn down the set at the venue. He was placed under house arrest for the threat.
