ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Hasan Adil, a student of class 8 at Siddiq Public School, Islamabad, won the Special Commendation prize in the Level 3 (classes 7–9) category of the competition.
Winners of Oxford Big Read Asia, an annual reading and writing campaign for primary and secondary students have been announced today by Oxford University Press.
OUP Pakistan congratulated Hasan Adil who will be awarded a certificate and a books bundle for his achievement at the Asia level. Winners of the competition are chosen nationally through the participating Oxford University Press branches, and then become semi-finalists in the regional competition across the continent.
The campaign is open to schools and institutions in Hong Kong, China, India, Malaysia, and Pakistan through the Oxford University Press branch offices. Submittals from students are assessed by a panel of judges based on the quality of thought and expression, vocabulary range, and the overall caliber of content.
All students from classes 1-9 can join the Oxford Big Read Asia
competition through the schools participating in the contest. Schools and institutions can take part by registering their interest to receive further details about the campaign at the time of launch.
Speaking about the Oxford Big Read Asia competition, Arshad Saeed Husain, MD OUP Pakistan has said that “Reading books ensures a mind that is comfortable with ideas, which is a prelude to creativity. The prime objective of Oxford Big Read is to draw young people towards reading books in depth, develop their comprehension and creative writing skills, and finally reward their effort and interest in reading and creative writing.”
