ISLAMABAD: The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has approved an increase of Rs1.55 per unit in power tariff on account of periodic adjustments in tariff for the second quarter of current financial year. A day earlier, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) approved an additional fuel cost adjustment (FCA) of Rs9.52 per unit for K-Electric (KE) consumers for the month of May.

A notification in this regard has also been issued by the power regulatory authority. Power distribution companies will recover Rs39 billion from the consumers following the tariff revision.

Nepra said that it had decided to apply the same with effect from July 1, 2022, which would be recovered within three months from the date of notification.

However, the increase in the electricity tariff will not be applicable to lifeline consumers and the consumers of K-Electric, the power regulatory authority added.

It is pertinent to mention, just yesterday, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority had approved an additional fuel cost adjustment (FCA) of Rs9.52 per unit for K-Electric (KE) consumers for the month of May.

According to a notification issued by NEPRA, the K-Electric had requested a fuel cost adjustment of Rs11.34/kWh.

The amount will be recovered in the bills of July and August 2022 from the KE consumers. In July, consumers will be charged Rs2.63, while the consumers will be charged Rs6.89 in August.

Nepra conducted a public hearing on July 4 on the petition submitted by KE for fuel charges adjustment for May 2022. The increase will be applicable to all consumer categories, except for KE lifeline consumers.
