The state is going through the most critical juncture. The myriad of political, social, and economic crises has hollowed the country’s foundations. Politicians are only concerned about coming to power and their vested interests which have worsened the economy and indebted the nation.
Political parties pretend to be angels in the opposition until it’s time for them to sit on the throne. No one is bothered about the masses. The rising tide of inflation has made lives so miserable that they cannot even raise their heads. People are still deprived of basic necessities such as the provision of water, gas, and electricity and cannot even afford two square meals.
Crime, indecency and violence have gained a foothold in society. This is due to our rotten political system that has made the powerful above the law and the common man helpless. It could be just a matter of time till the patience of the masses reaches its limits.
Political leaders and the elite will have to think about bringing economic reforms before a public revolution sweeps them.
Governments around the world continue to reform their political system to meet the most basic needs of their people. But we have rulers who just fill their personal treasures. They do have any ounce of shame by snatching from the mouths of the people. Their attitude has adversely impacted our political system and has a negative impact on society.
Our society is unfortunately losing qualities like brotherhood, solidarity, reconciliation, and compassion. How long will the tug of war for power continue? This struggle for power is not new and has been going on since the formation of the country. This increased over time putting public welfare and political stability aside. The corridors of power have become the background for conspiracies and coups. These were done on the behest of the United States to secure their favours.
The tragedy is that first Prime Minister Liaquat Ali Khan was assassinated in order to acquire power. Then his successor Khawaja Nazimuddin was humiliated and thrown out after a conspiracy. Iskander Mirza was kicked out, Ayub Khan was humiliated, Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto was hanged and Nawaz Sharif was forced into exile and now World Cup winner Imran Khan is being called a traitor.
The history of the desire for power is ugly. The distribution of the treason certificates should be stopped. We have endured losses and suffered enough by imposing wars on ourselves. We have been forced to bow down to powerful countries and global financial institutions. It is time the political elite brings drastic changes so we can regain our lost dignity.
We spend billions of rupees monthly on the parliament and ministries but gain nothing. The role of the government, judiciary, army and the media is vital for stability and security of the country. It is hoped these four pillars of state play their role so that the state can stand on its own feet and doesn’t have to beg for loans from another country.
