KARACHI: Sindh government has started free of cost vaccination of cows against lumpy skin disease to control the outbreak which has claimed the lives of several livestock in Sindh especially in Karachi.
A farm owner, while talking to MM News said that his 15 cows were infected with the lumpy skin disease out of which one died while others recovered from the disease.
Another farm owner said that his livestock has been vaccinated against the disease on the day, when the vaccine arrived from Turkey and added that it has been only three days since the vaccination and result will come after 15 days, and only then will be accuracy of the vaccine can be measured.
He said that there is no side effect of the vaccine. All the livestock is safe and sound after vaccination. He lauded the steps of the Sindh government and added that this will help in controlling the disease and the business of milk will also revive.
Dr Habibullah Jamali, Deputy Director Livestocks Sindh said the lumpy skin disease is affecting cows only not the buffaloes and added that his department is focusing to vaccinate the maximum number of cows as there are 750,672 cows in the Karachi.

He said that some of the rural areas are being focused on vaccination while urban areas like Landhi, Cattle Colony, Surjani, and Bilal Colony are being focused by our teams.
About the availability of the vaccine, Dr Jamali said so far they have received 60,000 doses of the vaccine. He said they are getting reports on a daily basis about the progress of the vaccination.
