Global star Will Smith has apologised to comedian Chris Rock after he slapped him at the Oscars and termed his behaviour as ‘unacceptable and inexcusable’.
It all started when the comedian who was the Oscars presenter on Sunday night made a joke about Will’s wife, after which the actor star slapped Rock in the face on stage. Later, the Oscars film academy condemned Will Smith over the incident and announced a formal review.
Now, the I Am Legend actor took to Instagram and wrote, “Violence in all of its forms is poisonous and destructive.” The actor went on to say that his behaviour at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable.

“Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally,” he posted.

While directly apologising to Rock, Smith said that he was ‘out of line’. He also apologised to the Academy and the Williams family. “I deeply regret that my behaviour has stained what has been an otherwise gorgeous journey for all of us,” he wrote.
Smith-Rock fiasco
For those unversed with the entire ordeal, it occurred after Chris Rock, the award show presenter, started poking fun at Will Smith’s wife Jada Pinkett, and her alopecia. At the time, he branded her GI Jane 2, in response to her baldhead, and simultaneously incited an enraged reaction by the actor who could be heard saying, on live television, “Keep my wife’s name out of your [expletive] mouth”.
