Opposition neither has required numbers nor public support: Fawad

Fawad

LAHORE: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Chaudhry Fawad Hussain said that the opposition parties would not succeed in any move against the government as neither they had the required numbers nor public support.

Addressing a press conference, the federal minister said there was no possibility of tabling of a no-confidence move by the opposition parties as they were only giving timelines. “The opposition parties were trying to create a political environment by staging marches and proposing a no-confidence move for a face-saving only,” he added.

He said opposition leaders, particularly Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) chief Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman, were reflective of their depressing situation as they have nothing to offer. He said that the two major opposition parties, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) had been reduced to regional parties only.

He expressed gratitude to the allied parties for standing firmly with the government and said the opposition parties were not sincere with each other and all of them were looking for protecting their personal interests.

Fawad said that the PTI government would welcome PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto’s march in Rawalpindi and added that around 100 people, which were the total strength of his march, would also be offered tea. He advised Bilawal to realise that Pakistan was hosting the Australian cricket team in Rawalpindi after a long time and such a show could have a negative impact.

‘Constitutional term’

State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Farrukh Habib said that the PTI government would complete its constitutional term of five years and on the basis of its best performance and public service, it will again come into power by winning public support in the next general election.

Addressing the inaugural session of a workshop, he said that another deadline of 48 hours given by Maulana Fazlur Rehman and company to the government had once again met an ultimate failure. “Under the garb of the PDM, Maulana had earlier betrayed Maryam Safdar and this time, he would cheat Shahbaz Sharif. The PML-N had also not fulfilled its commitment made to people regarding the return of Nawaz Sharif from London,” he said.

“The unnatural alliance of the PDM had failed to meet its commitments and tall claims of toppling the elected government,” he maintained. The parties, which never had unanimity of ideology and remained different with each other throughout their politics, were once again making failed attempts to forge a united move of no confidence,” he said.

To a question, he said that Bilawal’s long march turned into a short march in Sahiwal and public meeting at Minar-e-Pakistan would prove his popularity among people. He said the PDM had failed badly as it had no productive agenda for people and the country.

Meanwhile, Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Political Communication Dr Shahbaz Gill also stressed that the PTI government will complete its constitutional tenure.

Addressing a press conference, he said nothing would happen to the government and it would complete its term as no MNA would vote in favour of the opposition. He said that the opposition parties were working against Prime Minister Imran Khan on a foreign agenda.

Shahbaz Gill said that the prime minister would not compromise on dignity and sovereignty of the country. He said that it was shameful for the society that the opposition was now openly talking about buying loyalties of the members of parliament to destabilise the government.

He questioned was there any leader in the past who could say ‘absolutely not’ to any superpower. He said that today Pakistan’s foreign policy was independent and decisions were made within the country.
