KARACHI: The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) had planned to establish a Centre of Excellence (CoE) aimed at promoting the nation’s animation industry.

The promoting project would be reportedly carried out with the help of the University of Karachi and had an estimated cost of approximately Rs2 billion.

Moreover, the center will be set up within the premises of Sheikh Zayed Institute present on University Road. And it will accumulate an area of 28,000 square feet which is larger than any other incubation center in Pakistan.

The expenditure of the costs had been divided into two parts, as Rs1 billion will be spent on the provision of necessary equipment and facilities. While another Rs1 billion will account for the center’s five-year expenditure.

However, the officials of the programme state, “We aim to empower our youth to take a larger chunk of the current global animation market of about $370 billion,” the officials said. “We must tell the world that our youth is at par with the world in adapting to this creativity and will take their due share from the current global market of $370 billion.”

Furthermore, they added, an agreement has already been signed with ‘Ignite’ to establish the CoE, which would feature a vertical incubator, training facility, production studio, and co-working space for animation, VFX, and game development.

Earlier, Syed Amin ul Haque Federal IT and Telecommunication Minister, on signing the MoU with KU, had revealed, Pakistan had huge potential and could be one of the key regional players in the gaming, animation, multimedia industry through training, mentorship, and skill development of youth and by facilitating gaming and animations startups through incubation and acceleration programmes to transform them into successful and sustainable businesses.
