As covid cases surge, Sindh govt closes educational institutions till Aug 30

KARACHI: Following the proposal of the Sindh Health Department, the provincial government has announced to keep educational institutions close till August 30.

Addressing a press conference in Karachi, the Sindh Chief Minister said that schools in Sindh would not be reopened for another week, adding that teachers, staff, and parents should be vaccinated in this one week. Murad Ali Shah said that school teachers and parents of children also have to show their vaccine certificates.

Earlier, it was announced that all classes from primary to university in Sindh would be opened from August 23. However, the Sindh Health Department has issued an alert for an increase in coronavirus cases.

According to the department, due to non-compliance with SOPs in recent days, there is a risk of the spread of coronavirus. As per the health department, the vaccination of teachers and parents could not be completed.

Earlier, Sindh Education Minister Sardar Shah had said on August 17 that it had been decided to open educational institutions in Sindh from August 23. The minister said that only those schools will be open where all the teachers have been vaccinated.

Sindh Education Minister said that all schools will be allowed to open with 50 percent attendance. All students, including teachers, will be allowed to come to school with masks.

Sardar Shah said that all schools will be opened following SOPs and will have random PCR tests. He said that the monitoring process in schools will continue and coronavirus SOPs will be strictly enforced.
