Actor Wahaj Ali starring short film ‘Yorker’ has highlighted how Pakistanis still have not gotten over with colonial mindset.
A 24-minute short movie film has portrayed how speaking ‘poor’ English can make give people the right to troll you or humiliate you publically or online. The story revolves around a successful fast bowler Ammar Saleem played by Wahaj Ali, whose biggest insecurity is acing the English language.

Despite being a successful cricketer, he is still trolled online for his language and things take a new turn when he decides to take English courses with his friend. The movie is a reflection of Pakistanis’ mindset with how the restaurant owners in Islamabad were caught on camera mocking one of their staff members because of his English accent.

Written by Ali Abbas Naqvi, the cast includes Basit Naqvi and Sultan Ghani Afzal. Muhammed Ehteshamuddin, Faizan Sheikh, and Hammad Sadiq in the lead roles. The movie also features cameos by British-Pakistani journalist George Fulton, Salman Saqib Sheikh, and Jawad Bashir. The short film has crossed over one million views on YouTube.
