BATTAGRAM: At least six people lost their lives and more than a dozen others injured when a passenger truck skidded off the road in Thakot area and fell into the Indus River in Battagram district late last night.
According to information gathered by MM News from local sources, the pick-up truck was carrying some 30 people when the incident occurred on Thakot-Jumbari road. Locals rushed to the spot and started search and rescue operation after which six bodies were retrieved while 17 others injured.
The bodies and the injured were taken to Thakot rural health centre and the district headquarters hospital, Battagram.
Officials said that some passengers were still missing. The Rescue-1122 has launched a search and rescue operation in the area.
MM News has further learnt that an emergency was declared in the DHQ hospital after the incident as officials of the district administration rushed to the spot to supervise the rescue operation.
