KARACHI: Citizen Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) has released its report on crime incidents in the city during the past ten months of the current year.

The data shows that 322 people were murdered in target killing and other incidents and thousands were looted in various parts of the city in the past ten months this year.

According to the CPLC report, there has been a wide increase in crime in the city as 322 were murdered during the ten months of the current year till October 30.  A further 1,425 cars and 30,850 motorcycles were stolen from citizens during these months.

Law-enforcement agencies were able to recover only 2,126 vehicles. During street crimes, 17,937 mobile phones were stolen while only 1,885 were returned to their owners. There were 17 cases of extortion and two cases of kidnapping for ransom.

In another report, as many as 122 people including 100 motorcyclists lost their lives in road accidents in Karachi during the last five months due to reckless driving.

From June to September, 79 motorcyclists including children were killed. In October this year, 21 motorcyclists lost their lives in different road crashes in the city.

The increasing number of road accidents has raised questions about the implementation of the Road Safety Action Plan aimed at reduces crashes, injuries and deaths on highways and motorways by promoting safe driving behaviour.
