Achakzai warns against 28th Constitutional Amendment

Mahmood Khan Acahakzai, 28th Amendement

Mahmood Khan Achakzai has said that the proposed 28th Constitutional Amendment would be a “major mistake,” arguing that the Constitution has already been severely undermined.

Speaking at a press conference in Quetta, he questioned how the country is being governed and said that real authority must be transferred to the people in order to run Pakistan effectively.

Achakzai alleged that the 2024 general elections were “sold out,” claiming that when a parliamentary seat can be bought for around 40 crore rupees, meaningful democratic participation becomes impossible.

He stated that if Pakistan is governed strictly under the Constitution and oath of office, the country has the potential to become a strong and successful state. He emphasized restoring constitutional order as a priority.

The veteran politician also demanded that local populations be granted rights over minerals extracted from their regions, stressing fair ownership and benefit-sharing.

He said efforts to secure the release of the PTI founder have continued for a long time without success, adding that meetings with him are restricted and even his sisters are not being allowed access.

Achakzai warned that if a conflict breaks out between Iran and the United States, it could negatively impact both Pakistan and Afghanistan. He suggested that Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Iran should consider forming a regional alliance to ensure stability.
