KARACHI: Around 193 students have been deprived of enrolment in Associate Degree Programme (ADA) Part 1 at Karachi University after being unable to submit their forms and fees due to the negligence of the former principal and college officials.
The students at Government College for women, New Karachi 11-F, have lost their educational career due to the negligence of retired principal Associate Professor Shabana Naz, Director General Colleges Rashid Ahmed Mehar, and Regional Director Colleges Karachi Hafiz Abdul Bari.
Before the retirement of Principal Shabana Naz on Feb 7, the college had already collected the forms and fees of more than 100 female students. The principal, who is also the DDO, however, did not submit the pay order even though the funds had been submitted in the college account. Subsequently, the date for depositing the pay order for Associate Degree Programme of Karachi University was fixed with late fees of Rs. 1000 till Feb 17.
The University of Karachi had fixed the fees for Associate Degree Program at Rs. 2100 despite which the college did not pay them within the deadline and imposed additional burden on female students and parents. The late fees after the second deadline of Feb 17 will further increase to Rs, 2000 per student.
The Regional Director’s Office has provided conflicting information after the retirement of Principal Shabana Naz. The inability to point a Grade 19 officer to the post has caused immense problems for students and the college’s bank accounts cannot be used without authorization of the principal/DDO.
Due to non-availability in principal, the college could not dispatch the pay order to the Controller of Examinations of Karachi University. The principal also did not perform the important task before her retirement even though she was given a grand farewell. Regional Director Colleges Karachi Hafiz Abdul Bari has shown no interest in this matter due to which female students are facing immense hardship as their future is at stake.
According to available documents, Associate Professor Shehla Yousaf tops the seniority list at the college. She is followed by Assistant Professor Amira Ahmed, Musharraf Anis, Ayesha Awan, and fifth number is Assistant Professor Qudsia Faisal. Before retiring, the former principal sent the names of three senior teachers to the Regional Director. She had written negative remarks over the top two senior officers but had a positive overview of the three junior teachers. It should be noted that the retired woman herself did not have any experience before being appointed as principal.
Despite the knowledge of the Regional Director Colleges, no one is being appointed as the principal. It has been learned that RD Office has summoned the junior officers Ayesha Awan, Musharraf Anis and Amira Ahmed on Tuesday, Feb 15. This correspondent contacted DG College Rashid Ahmed Mehar and Regional Director Colleges Karachi Hafiz Abdul Bari several times but they did not receive the all. Their position will be published when it is known.
