KHAIRPUR: An 11-year-old boy died after being attacked by stray dogs in the Khairpur district of Sindh, sources said on Monday.
According to the sources, the boy identified as Ghulam Murtaza was severely attacked by dogs in the Kot Diji area. As a result, he suffered severe injuries in his face and other parts of his body.
Soon after the attack, the victim was rushed to a nearby hospital where he succumbed to his wounds during treatment, the source said.
Citing the incident a police official said a first information report (FIR) of the dog attack that led to the boy’s death will be registered against the Union Council’s (UC) secretary of the area.
Sources said residents have confined themselves to their houses due to fear of a possible attack by savage dogs that are freely roaming the streets of the neighborhood.
Recently, a 13-year-old boy had died after being injured by stray dogs in Hala city of Sindh’s Matiari district.
A pack of savage dogs attacked the boy, leaving him critically injured, according to his family. Local residents rushed him to the Hala Hospital where he succumbed to his wounds.
An alarming rise of dog-bite incidents being reported across the province with a common complaint about the scarcity of the anti-rabies vaccine. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), rabies is endemic in Pakistan but not a notifiable disease.
The disease shows no signs of abating in Karachi because of factors ranging from the lack of surveillance systems and collaboration between different government-run hospitals and departments to limited access to up-to-date rabies vaccines and immunoglobulin.
