YouTube has rolled out a series of new features for Shorts aimed at expanding support for image-based content, bringing the platform closer in style to short-form formats popularized by Instagram and TikTok.
In effect, YouTube is gradually transforming Shorts into a format closer to Instagram and TikTok, according to reports.
The company has designed new tools specifically for image-based posts, allowing users to create slideshow-style posts of up to 10 images.
Users will also be able to add text overlays to images and include background music of up to 15 seconds.
Instead of editing full videos every time, users will now be able to engage their audience more easily through simple image-based posts.
The company said the new features are intended to help users share visual stories directly on the Shorts feed.
These new image posts will be similar to those on Instagram and TikTok, where such content is widely popular.
Earlier, YouTube had announced several interface changes for Shorts.
These included a new clear screen mode that hides icons and text, allowing viewers to focus more on the video without distractions.
YouTube Shorts will also now support double playback speed, enabling users to watch short videos even faster.
