Following Shehbaz Sharif’s election as the prime minister of Pakistan, leaders from around the world conveyed their congratulations and well-wishes to the newly sworn-in premier.
Shehbaz, who assumed office for the second consecutive time, took the oath on Monday, maintaining his position after a 16-month tenure from April 2022 to August 2023.
Various international leaders extended their felicitations to the newly elected premier as he officially assumed the role of the country’s chief executive, expressing hopes for his success during the next five years of governance.
Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Mohammed bin Salman, congratulated Shehbaz after the oath-taking ceremony, conveying wishes for success and prosperity for the people of Pakistan.
U.S. Ambassador to Pakistan, Donald Blome, took to social media to congratulate PM Shehbaz, expressing anticipation for close collaboration between the United States and the new government on mutual interests.
The United Kingdom’s Foreign Secretary, Lord David Cameron, expressed eagerness to work with PM Shehbaz and emphasized the critical nature of this time in Pakistan’s history, calling for the new government to work for the benefit of all citizens and implement essential reforms.
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas sent a letter congratulating the new PM, emphasizing the strong historical bond between Palestine and Pakistan. Abbas lauded Pakistan’s consistent support for the rights and justice of the Palestinian people and extended prayers for Pakistan’s development and prosperity.

Earlier, Turkish and Iranian presidents also extended their congratulations to Shehbaz on his election as the prime minister for the second time.
Shehbaz secured the position on Sunday with the support of 201 votes from his party and seven allies. This marks his second consecutive term as prime minister, having previously assumed the role after Imran Khan was ousted through a no-confidence motion in 2022. Shehbaz served as prime minister from April 11, 2022, to August 2023, before handing over the government to a caretaker setup.
