SUKKUR: A passenger was killed and several others were injured when eight coaches of the Karachi Express were derailed near Rohri in the wee hours on Sunday.
The train was en route to Lahore from Karachi when it met an accident between Rohri and Panu Aqil. One woman was killed and at least 30 others were injured in the accident. The rescue operation has been completed and the injured have been shifted to hospital.
Due to the accident, the train service was suspended on both tracks and all Punjab-bound trains that left Karachi were stopped at different stations. Inspector General Railways said the incident will be investigated to ascertain the cause of the mishap.
Rescue officials were assisted by local people in the relief operation. The personnel faced immense problems in rescue operation due to darkness and it several hours to rescue the passengers trapped in the ill-fated trains.

Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Azam Khan Swati said he would not tolerate the negligence of those involved in the accident.
While speaking to media, he said that if the train driver is found guilty, he will not be spared and action will be initiated against him.
The minister said the initial report of the unfortunate incident will be received in four to five days, adding the railways officials reached the spot to probe the matter.
The Railways minister said he had been directly monitoring the rescue operation. He said the security of the passengers is his top priority.
