Murad Saeed, former federal minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) stalwart, is once again in the news regarding his potential participation in the upcoming protest of his party for the release of Imran Khan.
Saeed, who is an absconder in various cases, including the May 9 attack on the General Headquarters of the Pakistan Army, has been underground since the May 9 riots, and no one knows his whereabouts. Some people believe that he crossed into Afghanistan shortly after the May 9 riots, in which he actively participated, and is hiding in neighboring countries. However, there is no confirmed information regarding this.
Some sources claim that Saeed is in Swat, his native district, hiding in someone’s house, while others suggest that he is in the custody of law enforcement agencies and that his arrest will be announced at an appropriate time.
The young Saeed was a favorite of former Prime Minister Imran Khan during his tenure and was also considered the best minister in Khan’s cabinet. Khan admired Saeed for his outspoken personality.
Now, with Imran Khan calling for the final round against the government and the establishment to secure his release and press for new elections in the country, PTI is set to use all its strength in the upcoming protest starting on November 24. In this context, some political analysts believe that PTI may direct Murad Saeed to come forward and lead and charge the youth for the protest, possibly culminating in a sit-in at the famous D-Chowk in Islamabad.
Some sources also claim that Saeed is tired of his underground life and wants to appear publicly and present himself for arrest, thus beginning a legal battle against the cases registered against him. This may be the best occasion for him to appear at the November 24 protest and later surrender to the police.
However, in a TV program yesterday, Senator Faisal Vawda, a former PTI leader, warned that Saeed’s arrest would create more difficulties for Imran Khan and the arrested former spymaster Faiz Hameed.
Let’s see whether Murad Saeed comes forward on November 24 or not.
