To maintain law and order during Muharram-ul-Haram, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police have finalised a province-wide security strategy and formally requested the Home Department to approve the partial suspension of mobile phone services in selected areas on the 9th and 10th of Muharram.

According to details, a security plan prepared under the special directives of the Inspector General of Police, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, outlines a series of measures aimed at preventing any untoward incidents during Muharram processions and religious gatherings.

The plan also provides for the support of the Pakistan Army, the Frontier Constabulary, and the use of advanced surveillance technology.

The report identifies eight districts as highly sensitive, namely Peshawar, Kohat, Hangu, Dera Ismail Khan, Tank, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, and Kurram. Security arrangements in these districts will be significantly strengthened compared with other parts of the province.

In addition, six further districts have been categorised as sensitive, where enhanced security measures will be implemented and protection levels increased during processions and religious assemblies.

According to the police report, more than 43,000 police personnel will be deployed across 14 districts to perform security duties. Additional platoons of the Frontier Constabulary will be stationed in the most sensitive districts to support local police, while full assistance from the Pakistan Army will be available to respond to any emergency situation.

To address security concerns, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Police have recommended the partial suspension of mobile phone and internet services in certain sensitive areas on the 9th and 10th of Muharram. A formal request has already been submitted to the Home Department for approval.

Aerial surveillance will also be conducted along procession routes in sensitive districts through the deployment of helicopters and drones for continuous monitoring. Furthermore, anti-drone systems will remain operational to prevent any unauthorised aerial activity.

Authorities have directed all Regional Police Officers and District Police Officers to maintain close coordination with local religious scholars and organisers of religious gatherings, ensuring full compliance with the agreed code of conduct throughout the observance of Muharram.
