Islamabad: Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb avoided giving a clear response when questioned about electricity prices.
During a meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee on Finance, the Finance Minister was asked whether electricity subsidies were being withdrawn.
In response, Muhammad Aurangzeb said that Energy Minister Awais Leghari and the Prime Minister were continuously working on the matter, adding that further discussions regarding electricity subsidies would take place in the coming days.
Members of the committee then asked whether electricity prices would decrease or increase.
However, the Finance Minister refrained from providing a definitive answer, stating that he could not comment on the matter at this stage.
He further stated that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Executive Board meeting would take place tomorrow, adding that Pakistan had met its targets, while the approval of the loan programme remained dependent on the IMF Board’s decision.
