Islamabad’s iconic Monal restaurant has announced it will close in September following a Supreme Court order to preserve Margalla Hills National Park.
A recent post on Monal’s social media confirmed its closure next month, saying, “It’s time to say goodbye. As per Honorable SCP directions, we are closing on 11/09/2024.”
The Supreme Court has directed the shutdown of all restaurants within Margalla National Park, including the popular Monal restaurant and La-Montana, to protect the park’s biodiversity. The court ordered these establishments to cease operations and be removed within three months. This decision aims to reduce human impact and preserve the ecological balance of the area.
Monal’s closure marks the end of an era for the iconic restaurant in Islamabad, with no current plans for relocation or future operations outside the park.
Earlier in 2022, the Islamabad High Court had ordered the suspension of restaurant operations, criticizing the relevant authorities for their complacency toward the widespread destruction of Margalla National Park.
Pro-environment citizens welcomed the development and expressed their happiness over the closure.
