Journalist Nasrullah Gadani, who sustained injuries in an assassination attempt in Ghotki, tragically passed away during treatment in Karachi on Friday.
He was associated with the Sindhi daily newspaper Awami Awaz and was known for his bold reporting on public issues and criticism of political leaders and feudal lords in Sindh.
On Tuesday, Gadani was shot and injured by unidentified attackers in Mirpur Mathelo. Before the attack, a video of Gadani filming a convoy of a local influential person traveling with police protocol went viral. The reporter, known for his outspoken stance against local feudal and powerful individuals, had been facing threats to his life.
After the attack, Gadani was initially taken to Mirpur Mathelo and Rahim Yar Khan’s hospitals and was then shifted to Aga Khan Hospital Karachi in an Edhi air ambulance on Wednesday.
“He was brought to Aga Khan Hospital with gunshot wounds to his abdomen. Despite efforts to save his life, he succumbed to his injuries,” the hospital spokesperson said.
Following Gadani’s death, the journalist community in Sindh called for protests across various districts, demanding the arrest of his killers.
According to sources, the police have detained several suspects from Ghotki district. However, their identities have not been revealed yet.
