Season 2 of Squid Game is set to premiere this year, with an initial glimpse provided in Netflix’s 2024 trailer. The first season of the South Korean drama achieved remarkable popularity, becoming the streaming platform’s all-time favorite series.
In February 2023, Lee Jung-jae, the breakout star, announced that filming for the second season was scheduled to commence in the summer and was anticipated to last approximately 10 months due to its larger scale.
Netflix officially confirmed this information in July, stating that filming had indeed started that month and was on track for the envisaged 10-month duration, as previously mentioned by Lee Jung-jae. The launch year for Squid Game season two was officially disclosed by Netflix in an announcement to shareholders.
The announcement showcased a robust slate of offerings for 2024, including the return of popular dramas like The Diplomat S2, Bridgerton S3, and Squid Game S2. Additionally, new series such as 3 Body Problem, Griselda, The Gentlemen, Eric, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Cien Años de Soledad, and Senna were revealed. Amidst this extensive lineup, Squid Game S2 was subtly confirmed to be part of the offerings for the year.
While the release date is still pending, the confirmation of Squid Game S2 in the 2024 lineup indicates that fans can anticipate its arrival in the latter half of the year. However, it’s worth noting that a summer release is unlikely due to post-production, with expectations pointing towards a debut in the winter season.
