According to the latest forecast from the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), Eid-ul-Adha is expected to be celebrated on Monday, June 17, 2024.
The Climate Data Processing Centre of the Met Office has projected that the crescent moon marking the beginning of Dhul-Hijjah, the twelfth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, will be sighted on June 6 at 5:38 PM.
Providing further details, the PMD stated that in Karachi, the moon’s age at sunset will be 26 hours and 8 minutes, with an expected visibility window of 72 minutes after sunset. Notably, the moon must be at least 19 hours old to be visible.
The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, responsible for the official sighting of the moon in Pakistan, is anticipated to formally announce the date for Eid-ul-Adha in the coming days, following traditional moon-sighting protocols.
In preparation for the festival, the establishment division has declared holidays from June 17 to 19 for Eid-ul-Adha this year. Both federal and provincial governments are expected to issue official notifications regarding these holidays a few days before Eid, ensuring the public is adequately informed and prepared for the occasion.
