LAHORE: Punjab Senior Minister Abdul Aleem Khan has said that selling wheat and flour at a high rate will not be allowed and it was the top priority of the government to keep flour prices stable across the province.
While chairing a meeting related to the wheat purchase and new procurement policy he said that new wheat procurement policy was being prepared as per the instruction of PM Imran Khan.
Aleem Khan said that a one-sided decision to raise prices of wheat could not be made. He said that genuine flour mills owners were assisting the government by implementing orders while ghost ones were indulging in blackmail the government.
The minister said, “New policy is being prepared to lessen the financial burden on the government, provision of targeted subsidy and stability in prices.” In Punjab, 4.3 million tonnes of wheat was available in stock at government level, he added.
Khan said that it was among the priorities of the government that farmers get a good price of their products and added that this year growers had been given a good price of wheat.
He said the new wheat procurement policy is the need of the hour to provide maximum relief to farmers and the poor in the country.
Abdul Aleem Khan said that the new policy would benefit not only the farmers but also the poor. He said that targeted subsidy would be given on wheat to provide relief to low-income people.
