WhatsApp Web is testing a large set of new chat themes to expand desktop personalization, according to a report from WABetaInfo. The feature is currently in development and available only in testing; it has not been rolled out to the public.
What’s changing
– WhatsApp Web will offer around 50 theme options (49 new variations plus the default light theme).
– Themes let users customize message bubble colors and apply matching chat wallpapers or backgrounds.
– Users can choose a default theme for all chats or assign per-chat themes for individual contacts and groups to help visually organize conversations.
– Theme changes are private and visible only to the user.
Theme variety and access
– Options span from soft pastels to bold, vibrant shades, with multiple tones within color families (for example, several blue variants).
– Themes will be accessible from the WhatsApp Web settings menu.
Context and rollout
– Previously, WhatsApp Web supported basic light/dark modes and a small set of wallpapers; this update significantly expands customization.
– There is no official release date; expect staged beta testing before a broad rollout.
– It’s not yet confirmed whether theme settings will sync with the mobile apps.
