Meta is testing an optional premium tier for WhatsApp called WhatsApp Plus that focuses on personalization and chat management while keeping the core messaging experience free.
Early test builds give subscribers expanded visual choices, including multiple new app icon styles and a broad set of accent color options, as well as fully customizable interface themes, exclusive sticker packs, and ringtones unavailable to free users.
Power-oriented tools being trialed under the Plus label include a greatly expanded pinned‑chat capacity and bulk chat‑list controls that let users apply unified themes or notification tones across groups.
Meta is running the subscription as an optional, limited test to gather feedback before any wider rollout, with monthly pricing set at a few dollars—comparable to recent subscription tiers from other social apps—as the company looks to diversify revenue beyond advertising among WhatsApp’s global user base.
