Elon Musk, owner of X and CEO of Tesla, has accused WhatsApp, a Meta app, of exporting user data every night in a post on X.
“WhatsApp exports your user data every night.” He added, “Some people still think it is secure,” Musk said.
WhatsApp has not yet responded to Elon Musk’s allegations. However, WABetaInfo, a website providing information about WhatsApp’s latest updates, posted a response to Tesla CEO’s claims on X.
WABetaInfo said, “It’s easy to blame WhatsApp when you have a product to promote, like the X messaging app and its end-to-end encryption. This is the main reason why Elon Musk repeatedly shares misinformation regarding WhatsApp.”
“WhatsApp does not share user data every night to create advertisements. It’s simply the local backup feature on Android, which always stays on your device. People can verify this by using a network traffic analysis tool to check their HTTP requests,” it added.
Earlier, Elon Musk has also targeted Meta, supervised by Mark Zuckerberg.
The Tesla CEO stated earlier this month that Meta is quite avaricious when it comes to claiming credit for advertising campaigns executed on its platform. Musk and Zuckerberg are known rivals among their followers.
