The Weeknd is riding high in the U.K. with what has turned out to be one of his most successful releases.
According to the Forbes, while the singer-songwriter sees his collection The Highlights return to its peak, it must be frustrating for the musician to watch the title come so close to the summit, only to continually miss out on the throne.
This week, The Highlights rose to No. 2 on the U.K. albums chart. This isn’t the first time that the compilation of many of the R&B/pop superstar’s most beloved singles has peaked in the runner-up rung. It’s reached that spot many times before–but somehow, it’s never been able to conquer the tally.
The Highlights has now spent seven nonconsecutive weeks at No. 2 on the U.K. albums ranking. It’s also lived inside the top 10 on the competitive list for 106 frames…but it has yet to conquer the roster.
This week, The Weeknd’s compilation is blocked by Ariana Grande’s Eternal Sunshine. That set opened at No. 1 last frame, and it earned a second stay in the penthouse this time around. If competition isn’t too fierce, The Highlights could conceivably rise to the peak next week…though The Weeknd has been in this position before, and he’s never managed to pull off the coup.
The Highlights is one of The Weeknd’s six top 10 albums on the U.K. chart. Half of those have climbed to No. 1 in the past, and whenever he returns with a new full-length, there’s a great chance that he’ll top the tally once again.
