QUETTA: A woman police constable was murdered on Monday evening allegedly by three female Russian inmates at Gadani Central Jail, in Lasbela district of Balochistan.
Police officials identified the murdered police constable as 23-year-old Zoya Binte Yahya, a resident of Gadani who was deputed at the prison for night duty. She was found dead on Tuesday morning when the jail’s head warden went to open the gate of the women’s barracks.
They said the Russian prisoners incapacitated the constable with a strike to the head before strangling her using a piece of rope.
The First Information Report (FIR) was registered on a complaint by the deputy superintendent of the Gadani jail. Gadani police SHO said an investigation was started to ascertain the facts and a case would soon be registered against the accused.
The Russian inmates are incarcerated in Gadani Jail since last five months. They were arrested in Quetta under Foreign Act and were shifted to Gadani, although their jail sentence had ended. They were awaiting legal procedures for their deportation were complete at the Russian consulate in Karachi.
Balochistan Home Minister Mir Zia Langove also took notice of the murder and has ordered senior police officials to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident. In a statement, the minister said the incident reflects on the poor standards of security at the prison and also indicates incompetence on the part of prison officials.
